How Katana works

Katana is always with you and easy to access. Scroll through the screens below to understand the different ways Katana works.

SAFETY TRAVELS WITH YOU

The Katana Arc pairs to your smartphone via bluetooth and attaches to the back of your phone, making it easily accessible and with you always.

YOUR KATANA CIRCLE

Your Katana Circle is made up of the trusted individuals who will be notified if you need help. The Katana App is where you enter up to 7 people to build your Katana Circle.

If you are ever in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation, or simply want to notify someone of your location, there are three ways to send an alert:

SILENT ALERT

Push and hold the Arc’s button for 3 seconds or press the button 3 times.

LOUD ALERT

If you’re wearing the wristband, pull it away from your phone. (e.g., drop your phone.) A loud alarm will alert the people around you. You can also use your finger to detach the toggle at the base of the Arc. Wear the wristband in environments where you feel vulnerable.

SEND ALERT FROM THE APP

If you do not have the Arc, you can send alerts to the Katana Response Center or call 911 directly from the app

KATANA RESPONSE CENTER

All alerts notify a Katana Response Center agent who will call you. If you do not answer, they call your local emergency services. If you answer and need help, they can guide you or connect you to local emergency services.

NOTIFYING YOUR CIRCLE

At the same time, messages are sent to your Katana Circle stating you may need their help, along with your location on a map. Their phones will ring prompting them to join a private conference call, so together they can coordinate next steps.

DIRECT CONTACT

You can make direct contact with individuals in your Katana Circle, by tapping their profile picture in the app. You can request they call you or you can send them a text message – both include a map of your location. You can also call them directly.

REMEMBER

Always keep your Bluetooth and Location Services ON.

You must have an active data plan or be connected to wifi for Katana to work and keep the Katana app active.

We’re stronger when we look out for each other

Now's the time we stand up to violence and sexual assault together, and work toward a future where we all can feel safe and respected.
